    Honda NC700X and NC750X

What do you get when you turn a low-stress motorcycle whose engine happily trades big power for uncommon efficiency into an ersatz adventure-touring bike? Why, the Honda NC700X, of course. The NC’s heart is a low-revving parallel-twin engine—rumored to be half of a Honda Fit engine, but that’s not quite true—whose power delivery is so smooth and the torque curve so flat that even the most ham-fisted riders will look like polished veterans. Introduced in 2012, Honda upped the displacement to 750cc for 2018 but left the NC’s oh-so-mellow personality alone.

The NC is the almost perfect urban commuter. It’s reasonably light, fairly powerful, narrow, and carries a unique method of carrying small amounts of cargo: the frunk. A portmanteau of front and trunk, the frunk lives where a gas tank would normally be above the laydown engine, and provides a lockable, water-tight storage space for your lunch and maybe a small laptop.

With its role as a perfect get-to-work motorcycle fully established—and its bonafides as a decent mid-distance touring bike as well as a newbie-friendly weekend fun moto—the NC700X and Honda NC750X benefit greatly from better lighting, both to see the road better and to better be seen on the road. Early versions have a bike-specific DENALI light mount available that bolts right to the frame-mounting fairing and provides a sturdy perch for any of DENALI’s LED motorcycle lights, from the magnificent D7 through the compact and lightweight S4, all the way to the smaller D2 and DM lights. If that’s not enough, you can add DENALI DRL (daytime running lights) to the NC700X or NC750X, bolted to the front fender or the radiator guard. Since a lot of commuters want engine crash guards for extra protection, that’s another avenue for mounting DENALI auxiliary lights; clamp mounts make quick work of holding any of the DENALI lights.

Out back, you’ll want the DENALI B6 tail light, a six-element LED that runs at half intensity as a running light and full intensity as an auxiliary brake light. Better yet, mount two on a convenient license-plate mount. And make yourself and your Honda NC audibly conspicuous with a SoundBomb horn. There’s an exact-fit DENALI mount available for the 2012-2015 Honda NC700X models, though either the full-size SoundBomb or the SoundBomb Split can be mounted to any NC in the line. Do it now before the next fellow commuter pulls into your lane unannounced.
