Honda CRF450RL

Dual-sport enthusiasts have been asking manufacturers, Honda especially, for a serious off-road machine in the “mid” category that’s also street legal. With the sweetheart Honda CRF250/300L Rally and CRF250/300L models below and the tried-and-true XR650L at the top of the thumper class—we can stipulate that the Africa Twin inhabits a different playground—there was room in between for a no-excuses, light-as-can-be dual-sport capable of serious desert chasing, technical woods riding, and general bad-assing off road while still working well enough to ride modest distances on pavement (legally).

Honda even had the right engine, in the CRF450R motocrosser’s: A single-cam, super-light torque monster proven in competition and outpunching a CRF250L and XR650L combined. A wide-ration six-speed transmission makes the 450 right for woods in the east and desert work out west, fitted to a fully modern aluminum frame and using real dirt-spec wheel sizes for a big set of choices in tires. It’s almost like Honda made a few changes to the CRF motocrosser and added a place for the license plate.

Owing to the fact that not all dual-sport rides end at sunset—and have you seen the dense tree trails in Oregon?—there’s definitely a place for DENALI LED auxiliary driving lights on the Honda CRF450RL. Start with a pair of DENALI Articulating Bar Clamp Mounts and add a set of lights, from the compact D2 and DM, up through the four-light S4, up through the D4 and the big-momma D7. Thankfully, all of the DENALI LED lighting systems are energy efficient, making the most light out of the fewest amps, and focusing that light with technologies such as our TriOptic Lens Systems and even have the ability to quickly add (even after installation) dual intensity capability through the DataDim module.

More to the point, all of DENALI’s products to fit the Honda CRF450RL—from the LED lighting systems to the B6 tail light, T3 Signal Pods, and SoundBomb horn—are built to be incredibly rugged, which you’ll appreciate as you whip your CRF450RL across the open plains or up the nastiest single-track in your state. LiveActive thermal management keeps the lights happy, and DrySeal Submersible connectors make sure that everything will still work after you’ve dumped your Honda in the stream. Because, you know, that’s half the fun of having a motocrosser with lights in your stable.
